Hello, and welcome. My name is Jamie and I’m an illustrator. My main passion is children’s illustration but I dabble in other things. Here you will find what I consider my best work. As you can see I have a lot of styles and enjoy working with a range of media, but my focus is wool painting. I use a technique called needle felting to manipulate wool into fun pictures. I also write my own children’s books.
Before you dive into my profile here is a little bit about me.
I am Scottish, I currently live in Fife with my husband and young son. My son is my inspiration. I began writing and drawing for him.
I haven’t always been an illustrator. In fact it’s a fairly new career. I used to be a library assistant, but at the beginning of 2020, I was medically retired due to a genetic condition I have called Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome which amongst other things affects my joints and my mobility. I was also pregnant at the time, and being miserable and stuck at home (as I’m sure you’ll all remember) I began doodling and writing notes on a book designed for my soon to be born baby boy.
I have always been artistic but never considered it a career before. After my son was born I went back to college to study art and design. While studying I had the opportunity to work on a book of poems by a local writer. You can see some of the illustrations here.
Last year I decided to officially start my illustration business, and set up my site. I’m currently working away, improving my technique, studying more, and building my career. If you want to follow me you can find me on instagram , where I share my works in progress and a wee bit about my life as a disabled mum and artist.
